Salary Survey – Credit Control & Credit Management Star Credit Recruitment is a specialist UK recruitment agency for commercial credit control. We pay particular attention to how changes affect the structures of credit control departments, the demand for credit control staff, and starting salary levels. The credit department in particular reflects the general business climate, since the permanent headcount here tends to expand or shrink with the level of business confidence. Our survey is based on 3 years of cumulative, anecdotal knowledge; analysing the placements made, looking at the number and types of vacancies, and examining the recruitment patterns within multinational corporations and small to medium sized firms. Talking to finance directors, finance managers and credit managers across a wide range of industries has also been very illuminating. We have noted that the range of salaries for most positions is quite wide spread, even between companies within the same industry. However, in 2004 - 2005, there appears to have been a preference for permanent credit control staff, as opposed to employing people on a temporary or “temp to perm” basis. This is probably because companies started to recognise that good credit departments contribute to the commercial success of the business and that top performers need to be brought in house. Starting salaries have improved slightly across the board, with the biggest rise being for credit controllers with two to three years’ of pure credit control experience. This is probably because of a shortage of good candidates at this level, and due also to the demand that is created by new vacancies, when top performers are promoted internally.
