Operational
Credit Manager - London. Ref: SCR 248
An excellent opportunity for a credit manager to run the day-to-day activity
of a large credit control department, inject a new dynamic, challenge
old business attitudes to credit control, and drive down problematic aged
debt.
You’ll
be actively managing a credit control team of 18 people, with other responsibilities
to include cash forecasting, debt recovery, customer visits and management
reporting. The role will also include routine credit risk / credit checking
of new and existing customers, and the provision of this information to
operations managers and business managers as required.
Purpose
of Job:
- To
manage the day-to-day running of the Credit Management Department of
18 staff
- Support
credit control team leaders in routine cash forecasting, credit management
and account administration
- Ensure
that debts are collected in a timely manner, and the company’s targets
are met.
- Work
with Business Managers and Operations Managers to gain their cooperation
in controlling debt.
- To
assist the Area Credit Supervisor in managing her team.
- Provide
routine credit information to other parts of the business as required.
- Conduct
all routine customer credit checking; opening accounts up to value specified
in the authority levels.
Nature
& Scope of the Job:
- Encourage
the team to manage debt in proactive fashion, on a daily basis.
- Rapidly
react to unexpected exposure by advising the Operations and Commercial
teams of available options.

Review the weekly summary schedules in preparation for a review with
Group Credit Manager.
- Hold
regular debt reviews with Operation and Commercial teams regarding debt
control.
- Ensure
that very aged debts are passed to a third party for collection
- All
routine customer credit checking; opening new accounts up to the authorised
value level.
Principal
Accountabilities:
-
Provide overdue debt information and actions taken, ready for review
by Group Credit Manager.
- To
provide weekly debt information for the business teams (customer account
managers).
- To
provide Periodic reports for the Commercial and Operations teams.
- To
assist the Credit Control Team Leader in resolving queries and cash
collections.
- To
monitor debt control activities at regional branches to ensure cash
flow is maintained at target levels, and to advise the Group Credit
Manager and Regional Operations Managers of issues arising.
- To
visit Customers to sort out account queries, administration to ensure
the account is paid to terms.
- To
visit current and prospective customers with the account managers.
- To
manage a field-based credit control team to ensure that debt is controlled
and paid to terms.
- Refer
any non-trading debt to legal.
- To
credit check the account applications.
- To
update the business managers regularly of particular payment problems
on specific accounts.
Knowledge
& Experience Required:
-
A highly motivated credit control manager who can deliver workable solutions
in a business sensitive environment.
- Achievement
and results orientated.
- Strong
interpersonal skills, able to motivate people.
- Skilled
in the development of innovative strategy which is realistic and achievable.
- Work
well within a team in either lead or support role.
- Preferably
a qualified or nearly qualified graduate of the Institute of Credit
Management.
- Strong
communication skills, able to deal with staff and managers at all levels
across the business and deal with customers effectively.
- A
confident well organised self-starter who is able to prioritise work
and meet deadlines.
- Experienced
in using Microsoft Word and Excel Spreadsheets.
- Must
have a current driving license.
Salary
and Package:
- To
c£45k (negotiable depending on experience) + 12.5% bonus
